INVESTIGATIVE SPOTLIGHT “If you don’t have a CV, now is the time to create one.” and/or the new CMAL (Certified Master Automotive Locksmith) credential will show your clients that you’re the man or woman for the job. One of the requirements for your CFL Get Certified IAIL President Tom Demont encourages investigative locksmiths to get their CVs up to date — and get their CFL credential. I receive many requests from insurance companies and law firms look- ing to hire an investigative locksmith for their cases. I always qualify them by asking the type of case they have: auto, padlock, door lock, door closer, safe or vault. I then direct them to a member who I feel is qualified to assist them. It would be nice if all of our members were CFLs (Certified Forensic Locksmiths), but that isn’t the case in most areas. I’d like to request that all IAIL members email me a list of your specialties in which you feel qualified as an expert. These should be outlined in your CV, but if not, you can list them separately. I always want to refer the most qualified person so that we look good for future references. If you don’t have a CV, now is the time to create one. If you drop me an email, I’ll be happy to send you a sample CV. With the PRP being rewritten to bring the questions and answers up to date, it’s important that IAIL members consider collecting credentials — and more is better. As an expert, you must show your client that you have been tested and earned profi- ciency in specific areas relating to the case you’re working on. There’s a big demand for automotive investigators, so obtaining your CAL (Certified Automotive Locksmith) WWW.ALOA.ORG credential is that you must write a white paper and submit it to the CFL committee for approval and then have it published in Keynotes. Once that’s done, you’ll in- sert that title into your CV to add to your credibility. Now, to become an expert witness, you don’t have to be an old lock- smith like myself with one foot into re- tirement and who doesn’t like turning screwdrivers anymore. Take the step to put your CV together. Once you have it, put a cover letter together and send it to the insurance companies in your area. Contact me if you need help and would like your CV reviewed before sending. If you have any questions please send me an email at [email protected]. om Resciniti Demont, HC, CAI, CFDI, CFL, CMIL, CML, CMST, ICML, FDI, ARL President, In- ernational Association of nvestigative Locksmiths. oa.org Get Published!
