SPOTLIGHT INVESTIGATIVE Coming Soon: A New CFL Elective The IAIL president gives updates on a new CFL elective, lifetime memberships and other association happenings. By Tom Resciniti Demont, AHC, CAI, CFDI, CFL, CMIL, CML, CMST, ICML, IFDI, ARL I 12 ’d like to go over a number of items with you IAIL members. As your IAIL president, I would like to state that it’s a great honor to be at the helm of an association for which I’m a founding charter member. I’d like to thank the board for their confidence in me to help guide our association moving forward. First, the Aaron M. Fish Security Training Center will have its dedication on November 12 at the ALOA headquarters in Dallas. ALOA is running specials on all of the classes that week, so if you want to be on hand for the dedication and pick up some education, contact the ALOA education department for details. New CFL Elective It’s time to expand our CFL listings. When you take the Certified Forensic Locksmith (CFL) exam, you can choose to take your main elective in automotive or general fo- rensics. I’m happy to report that we’re working on a third avenue: safe and vault fo- rensics. You’d need to meet all of the requirements of required classes in forensics plus classes in safe and vault forensics. We have a committee of CFLs who also hold SAVTA CPS and/or CMST credentials who are working on the committee. If you feel that you have something to contribute to this new specialty, please contact me. Get Published In my CV, I list all of the books and articles I’ve written and have had published to help establish my credibility as an expert witness. You can start now by writing for our IAIL page here in Keynotes and have your article published. Publishing an article or white paper is part of your CFL exam requirement. Please send your white paper/ article directly to me so I can get it into the hands of our approval credentials com- mittee. We’re a professional organization, and all papers must meet forensics crite- ria to be published. If you’re worried about editing, I will send it through an editing process before submitting it for you. KEYNOTES NOVEMBER 2015 IAIL — and ALOA — For Life Last year, I was the only IAIL member to purchase a life membership when I paid my dues. When you receive your ALOA dues notice and you check off your IAIL dues, that’s $50. Draw a line through the $50 and write “life” and send a check for your ALOA dues plus $500 for your life- time membership in IAIL. ALOA also sells lifetime memberships if you’d like to not worry about paying annual dues ever again. Keep in mind that your CFL certification is only good for three years, and then you must recertify. The requirement is that you submit to the CFL committee your updated CV, any white papers you’ve written and court cases you have been involved with and the dates they occured. Once you’re approved, you’ll be notified to send a check to ALOA for $50, and you’ll receive your new certificate. If any major legal foren- sics issues change, you may be required to take an updated class or pass an exam on that change to maintain your credential. m Resciniti Demont, AHC, AI, CFDI, CFL, CMIL, CML, MST, ICML, IFDI, ARL, has een a feature writer for eynotes since 1978.
