What’s New PRODUCT BRIEFS CCL Security Products has introduced the i- June 2016 history…” The Table of Contents lists an article on pages 28-31: “60 Years of ALOA.” One of the entries in the time- line is “1986 SAVTA established.” This suggests that the establishment of SAVTA, the Safe and Vault Technicians Association, was an accomplishment of ALOA, or at least was part of its history. Neither could be farther from the truth. In fact, the op- T posite is true. A year aſter ALOA was founded, at the first Organiza- tional Meeting in 1956, plans were announced to form the Safeman’s Division of ALOA. Meetings for this purpose were held for many years, but no Safeman’s Division was ever established. During the week of the ALOA Convention in Wash- ington, DC, in June 1986, Clay Miller held a meeting at which he announced his plans to form SAVTA. Joe Jack- man, then president of ALOA, spoke at the meeting and said that ALOA had no plans for nor intention of creating any such organization. The ALOA ’86 Convention was covered by a detailed ar- ticle of that title in Keynotes magazine, July/August 1986, pages 37-40. In that article, not one word mentioned the founding of SAVTA. On March 26, 1993, ALOA acquired SAVTA. An article in the May 1993 issue of Safe & Vault Technology pages 5 and 6, describes the transfer of ownership. This event is what should have been in ALOA’s timeline. Vaughan Armstrong, CMST, CML ALOA member since 1982 Charter Member of SAVTA he June 2016 issue of ALOA’s Keynotes magazine invites the reader to “… take a walk through ALOA’s Lock Electronic Cabinet Lock series.
