TRADE TIPS A Crack Filler Jam I had a client who couldn’t open her sliding door. On arrival, I noticed that she had sprayed crack filler along the bot- tom rail and halfway up the doorframe, as pictured. I knew the lock was functioning aſter removing both handles and observing the throw working with my screwdriver, so I started to cut around the area where the foam oozed out. Crack filler dries like a heavy glue, and there was a lot of it holding the door shut. I applied a bit of pressure with my screwdriver, first under the door to raise it up, then about six to eight inches up the door between the frame and door edge. Aſter several attempts at forcing this area with my screwdriver, the door popped open. It was caked with foam spray. I cleaned the foam off and lubed the lock, runner and striker. The updated security features work with Secura Key SK-ACPE-LE or the NOVA.16 access control panels and smart readers. NEWS I replaced the lock, and the door worked better than it ever had before, according to the client. — Tom Lucas, CRL The client had sprayed crack filler in her doorframe to try to keep stinkbugs out, sealing the door shut.
