SC, in 1982. National has always been known for its full product line of security locks, ranging from disc tumbler locks to pin tumbler locks. In Figure 3, the kit shows CCL pins in black and National pins in red. There is also an excellent pin- ning block work station built right into the kit. The wooden pinning block is also available as an individual item for lock- smith use (LAB LPB001). BiLock Perhaps no manufacturer to date has cre- ated a key with a more modernistic look and feel than BiLock. By adding high security with a plethora of product line options, one has a versatile locking sys- tem that’s being used extensively by the gaming and casino industry, as well as in commercial and residential applications. Brian Preddey, an Australian master locksmith, invented BiLock in the late 1980s to satisfy the unique needs of the casino operators of his country. Tamper- proof locks, complete key control and extreme pick resistance were the driving forces for its inception. The BiLock mech- anism works on a principle similar to the Medeco 60 series cam locks: a single bot- tom pin and spring in 12 chambers that WWW.ALOA.ORG Figure 3. The BiLock Factory Authorized Pin Kit (PK-002, plastic, 12" x 6” x 1.5") contains the four standard or “common” pins, as they are called, with the 10 master pins labeled A through K, sidebars, springs and spring retainers (Figure 5). Master keying is accomplished by using only the master pins, as necessary (never the com- mon pins and master pins). Security Pins LAB offers a small kit only for security pins. The Security Plus Pin Kit (LMDS includes spool pins and serrated pins. Exactly what is the difference betw the main three types of security pins — mushroom pins, spool pins and serra pins? I’m glad you asked. A mushroom pin tumbler — usu a top pin — is engineered to resemb mushroom. It’s typically used to incre pick resistance within a cylinder. Th means that one end is typically desig to fit the pin width, with the remain of the length of the pin being much th ner. Imagine a wild mushroom with i cap and you will mentally see the mu room pin. A spool pin can be likened to an old- fashioned wooden thread spool.
