Growth and Progress for ALOA in 2015 I don’t know about you, but it’s cold in Pittsburgh, and I am packing my bag and heading to the Security Lead- ers Forum Conference in sunny San Diego. If you have been procrastinating, there may not be any rooms leſt, but call and tell the hotel that the ALOA president requested your presence at the conference! That should get you directions to the Motel 6 down the road. Of course, I am the lame duck president leaving office in July. Then I’ll take my seat as a trustee next to my good friend Hans Mejlshede, where our past ex- perience will help the new president govern for the next two years. We have a great lineup of eager individuals willing to tackle the association duties for our members. ALOA has 5,600 locksmith members, 1,800 SAVTA members, 480 IAIL members, 390 AIL members and 99 ALOA Latino members. All of our divisions are growing through the leadership of their presidents and advisory boards. Our parent corporation ALOA Security Professionals Association, Inc. oversees all of these divi- sions with a full-time staff of 12 to handle the day-to-day operations under the leader- ship of our executive director, Mary May. Construction on the Aaron M. Fish Se- curity Training Center is moving along nicely. Work in the existing building has been progressing with the blocking of the three exterior windows to give us more space in the classrooms for displays and security. Demolition of the old warehouse is com- plete, and the floor has been leveled so the framing can begin. The progress has been slow, but — as Jim Hancock tells me when I am pushing him — we are only going to do this one time, and it will be done right! You can’t argue with that logic. ALOA has not given up on fighting the scammers, and our latest action is to gather lists of scammers in a city, state or region and send that list with a cover letter from ALOA demanding action be taken against these law breakers. In some states, we have direct contact with their licensing bureau to get the list into the right hands. We will also send this list to the state retail sales tax Help ALOA Fight the Scammers The ALOA Locksmith Task Force is now leading the battle against phony locksmiths. I respond to every e-mail I receive, so please keep those e-mails coming. Stay safe and have a very prosperous 2015.
