EDUCATION The New and Improved PRP Testing System Changes to ALOA’s longstanding process include on-demand testing times and instant results. By Jim Hancock, CML, CMST I seem to recall an article last March or April where we announced we were getting ready to change PRP test delivery companies, and that the new testing would be up and running in about 90 days. Here we are, about 365 days later — but finally, aſter a long process to try and make sure everything was working correctly, we’re launching the new PRP test delivery. The way the new testing will work is pretty simple to understand, but it’s different than in the past. It’s different because the new system has certain parameters we must adhere to. It’s different because we want the security and integrity of the testing to be at the highest possible levels. It’s different because the way the tests were delivered and administered has been virtually unchanged in almost three decades. The new system will have host test centers around the country, allowing potential test takers to pick a location nearest them and test at their convenience, on selected tests, rather than wait- “The new system will give test takers an immediate pass/fail once they’ve submitted their test, so no more waiting weeks for the grades to be returned.” ing for an ALOA test sitting. These selected tests are the mandatory test for locksmith cer- tification; the certified automotive locksmith exam; the certified professional locksmith exam; and the certified master locksmith exam. Electives will be available also. The new system will give test takers an immediate pass/fail once they’ve submitted their test, so no more waiting weeks for the grades to be returned. The traditional paper testing will still be available at all ALOA-sponsored events, such as the ALOA Convention & Security Expo, as well as local associations, chapters and anywhere a test sitting is requested. The grading of paper tests has also been streamlined, so test takers should receive their scores within a day or two of ALOA receiving the completed tests — again, in- stead of weeks. Also, all tests will be available via the traditional paper delivery. The next step in the delivery will be prac- tice exams, which will be available online so you can take them in the comfort of your home, office, or anywhere with a computer and Internet access. The tests for this option are still being written and the system tested, but it should be unveiled in the near future (hopefully not the same 90-day period!). For further information regarding the testing and what is available and pricing, go to the ALOA website (www.aloa.og) and click on the Education tab at the top of the page. Then, on the leſt-hand side menu, click on the link for Testing Instructions.
